There have been a lot of book sales locally and I’ve been reading more romances than sci fi or fantasy, so I haven’t been checking on my favorite authors in those genres as much as I should have. It makes for a happy discovery to find that one such author has lots of books that I am really excited to read – there goes my budget for the month!
All the books below are (obviously) written by Mercedes Lackey. I’ve been hooked on her stories since I first read The Ship Who Searched – her collaboration with Anne McCaffrey (RIP Dragonlady, Queen of Science Fiction and the true Masterharper). Misty Lackey has written many books but is perhaps best known for her Valdemar series, which continues to grow, thankfully.
Bastion: Book 5 of the Collegium Chronicles has been available since Oct 2013. It concludes the story of Mags as a Herald Trainee. The blurb indicates that Mags goes back to where his story began (as far as he can tell). Accompanied by Heralds Jadrek and Kylan, as well as his freinds Bear, Lena and Amily, he sets off for the Bastion, the place where he and his parents were held by raiders.
I haven’t read it yet so I have no idea what they find. Whatever it is, it sounds like Mags will definitely be coming out of it in his whites, trainee no more. The previous 4 books just left too many questions unanswered so I’m hoping this will give a satisfying conclusion to the tale – and no, I’m not interested in him getting into more romance with Amily.
Amazon’s page shows that a story published in 2008 as part of a collection of short stories set in Valdemar is being re-released. I honestly can’t recall the story of Moving Targets but I’m definitely interested to read the book. Even if no changes were made to the story, I’d still look it up just because the blurb is interesting.
Finding the path is another re-release. The story first appeared in 2010 as part of an anthology. A hertasi gets drafted by a companion to help get to his chosen. A hertasi and a companion in one story? Sold! Amazon indicates the book was released March 28, 2014.
